Germany On the 12th August large numbers of the new DB [Class 442 Talent 2 DMU, were seen in store at Wustermark Yard near Berlin and 218476+218108 were noted ‘top ‘n’ tail’ on RE15056 / RE15686 the 16:44 Frankfurt to Nidda / Stockheim. On the 14th 145035 was stabled at Dresden Hbf (presume this is the loco they are using for S-Bahn crew training) and EC172, the 05:27 Villach Hbf to Hambourg Altona was 182001 towing a dead 101124 ex Dresden. The following day 218313+218364 headed IC2075 the 15:52 Westerland to Dresden as far as Hamburg Hbf, then, on the 24th August 115332 (top) and 115205 (tail) had charge of IC2863 the the 14:25 Bonn Hbf to Hamm. On the 27th 218422 was seen heading RE27299 the 16:24 Munchen to Muhldorf via Ebersberg and the following day 182501 did IC1280 the 08:39 Zell am See to Munich. On the 29th August 218431 headed RE3204 the 08:10 Ulm to Neustadt/Schwarz, 120102 powered IC280 the 11:10 Zürich to Stuttgart (from Singen), 115509 brought IC185 the 11:55 Stuttgart to Zürich into Singen for SBB 11149 to take forward, 120155 headed IC187 the 13:55 Stuttgart to Zürich (to Singen), SBB 11300 worked IC184 the 15:10 Zürich to Stuttgart into Singen for 115509 to take forward, 218409 topped IRE4231 the16:02 Stuttgart to Lindau, from Ulm, 218436 did RE22670 the 16:24 Singen to Ulm and 218496 headed IRE4212 the18:04 Lindau to Stuttgart into Ulm for 146205 forward.
France Friday 20th August saw 7218 on train 14142 the 07:45 Hendaye to Toulouse and 7201 heading train 66611 the 16:37 Bordeaux to Hendaye. On Saturday 21st 7230 turned out on train 14142 the 07:45 Hendaye toToulouse, Sunday the 22nd produced 7211 on train 14142 the 07:45 Hendaye toToulouse while Monday 23rd found 67420 on train 867419 the 07:54 Toulouse to Nantes (from Bordeaux) and 67338 leading train 13032 the 17:00 Tours to Caen. Fret allocated 67543 was out on passenger workings recently, being noted on the 27th with train 2045 the 20:04 Paris Nord to Boulogne, from Amiens and returning on the 28th heading train 2008 the 05:38 Boulogne to Paris Nord as far as Amiens.
Austria On the 25th August OBB’s 1216025 was seen on Italian territory for the first time when it made a test run from Villach to Gorizia.
Belgium
Evening services noted around Brussels on the 25th

P8092 the 16:25 Brussels Midi to Dendermonde. There is still plenty of
locomotives to be had at Brussels as an early stint at Midi on the 27th

They want to use the locos on international freight, mainly hauling car parts from Fiat Auto Poland (Tychy) to Petrovice,Czech Republic. The Traxx’s that Koleje Mazowieckie will be getting next year, are to be called 'Hetman' and there is a rumor that they might be buying 16 more Stadler FLIRT EMUs. Finally Refurbishment work has started at Warszawa Centralna station with work on the platforms starting in October. The inside of Warszawa Wschodnia is a complete shell and a temporary ticket office has been set-up outside the station.
Luxembourg A session on the main station on the 28th August found 4018 on IR114 the 13:15 Luxembourg to Ettelbruck, 4003 leading IR115 the 13:19 Ettelbruck to Luxembourg, DB 181222 topping EC337 the 14:24 Luxembourg to Emden as far as Trier, DB181204 leading EC336 the 08:34 Emden to Luxembourg, 4006 with RB3240 the 15:32 Ettelbruck to Luxembourg, 4008 topping RB3215 the 15:50 Luxembourg to Ettlebruck, DB 181213 at the head of EC334 the 09:53 Norddeich Mole to Luxembourg, 4002 powering RB3242 the 17:35 Ettelbruck to Luxembourg and 4020 with RB3217 the 17:50 Luxembourg to Ettelbruck.
Switzerland BLS R/e 4/4 (Brownie) 169 has been out of service since 14th May when it collided with a partially collapsed overhead mast at Ausserberg. It was noted dumped at Spiez in August, on a track that has previously held withdrawn equipment waiting for disposal, so its future is uncertain.
Private Owner During the first weeks of August the Alstrom class 75400 diesels were being tested in France. Starting on the Marseille to Nice line (4)75402 has been seen topping various services in order to gain acceptance for the class. Later in the month it moved to the Toulouse to Narbonne corridor where it was pictured (below) on the 18th August.
On the 23rd August orange liveried 189801 arrived at Lippstadt, home of the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (WLE), from Nuremburg, for driver-training.

Germany Advance Notice: On the 19th September a double anniversary celebration is to be held at Osnabrück depot. This is to celebrate the 175th anniversary of German Railways and the 125th anniversary of Osnabrück depot and the depot will be open from 11:00 to 18:00 with free admission. Shuttle trains are planned from the Hbf featuring V65001 and / or Köf 4807 as traction. Cab rides should be available in either a class 295 diesel or preserved electric E40 128, there are also rumors of a tour round Osnabrück in DMU 614005. Finally a photo hour is to be arranged before the official opening (09:30 to 10:30) for railway enthusiasts with a minimum donation of 5 Euro.
On the 11th August 218313+218364 headed IC2073 the 15:52 Westerland to Berlin as far as Hamburg, 182514 did CNL479 the 19:03 Hamburg Altona to Zurich and 112114 worked, vice a 120/2) RE33019 the 20:34 Hamburg to Rostock. On the 18th August 103222 was noted passing Niedervellmar (near Kassel) around 14:30 with Alpha Trains E186251 in tow, presumably heading for the nearby Bombardier works.
France Resplendent in all over silver, with no markings other than the loco number 7204 was noted heading train 14060 the 12:29 Tours to Paris Austerlitz on the 17th August. Same day 26031 worked train 14047 the 13:35 Paris Austerlitz to Tours, 26001 topped train 14066 the 15:00 Tours to Paris Austerlitz, 26034 powered train 14066 the 15:00 Tours to Paris Austerlitz and 26002 hauled train 14051 the 15:48 Paris Austerlitz to Tours.
Austria Noted on Tuesday 17th August were 1044122 on IC250 the 06:19 Maribor to Wien Meidling (from Spielfeld Strass), 2016001 leading REX9519 the 09:51 Bratislava hl.st to Wien Ostbf, 1144045 powering OEC255 the 10:03 Wien Meidling to Maribor (to Spieldfeld Strass), 1044009 topping IC533 the 10:30 Wien Meidling to Villach Hbf, 2016010 hauling REX9521 the 11:01 Bratislava hl.st to Wien Ostbf, 1144210 in charge of REX7613 the 11:11 Wien Ostbf to Bratislava Petrzalka, 2016015 on REX9523 the 11:51 Bratislava hl.st to Wien Ostbf and 2016032 with REX9520 the 11:25 Wien Ostbf to Bratislava hl.st.
Belgium On the 17th August 2334 did P7282 the 06:44 Aarschot to Antwerp Noorderdokken and 2321 headed P7283 the 07:44 Aarschot to Antwerp Noorderdokken
Portugal Diesel 1935 seems to have ventured out, having been overhauled at Barreiro, it had been stored at Entron but was seen last week on ECS duties, I’m still not sure if it back in normal traffic.
Hector Rail (Sweden) have acquired ES64U2031 from MRCE Dispolok, with an option for four more. On the 16th August test runs started with this 10 year old locomotive, which was the oldest locomotive in the MRCE Dispolok fleet being the first ES64U2 delivered to Siemens Dispolok (in their yellow and silver livery), back in August 2000. ES64U2031 traveled to Sweden by boat, via Rostock and (looking at the Hector Rail numbering scheme), 242001 would seem to be the most logical new designation for this engine. On the 19th 146541, in Metronome colours but with no ownership markings was noted leaving Kassel works (see picture below).
On the same day 185635 (CB Rail?) re-entered the site and DB Schenker 185395 was released to it’s owner. V100 diesel 203559 (ex DB 202559) has been returned to the Alstrom renting locomotive pool from it’s recent employment in Berlin, as yet no new ‘owner’ is on the horizon.

Germany Two Ex DB ‘Köf’ shunting locomotives have been on the move recently. First, after almost 23 years of private operation with Fichtl Lagerhausbetrieb GmbH of Saal (Donau), 323552 has passed into preservation with Passauer Eisenbahnfreunde (PEF) of Passau, where it arrived on (or about) 12th July. Second 323235 arrived with it’s new owner, GleisFrei Costruzioni Ferroviarie of Castel d'Ario, Italy on the 1st August. This loco was sold from Stauffer Schienen- und Spezialfahrzeuge, of Schlieren Switzerland to Unirail, of Recke, Germany in 2007 and now it’s changed nationalities again!
Passenger workings from the 2nd August included 101016 which brought home CNL1259 the 19:44 (01/08) Zürich HB to Berlin-Lichtenberg, 101102 hauling IC181 the 05:56 Frankfurt (Main) Hbf to Zürich HB, 101070 powering EC390 the 06:25 Linz to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf into Frankfurt, 101141 working IC2154 the 06:31 Berlin Gesundbrunnen to Düsseldorf Hbf, 101101 heading EC115 the 06:31 Münster (Westf) Hbf to Klagenfurt, 101144 topping IC2044 the 06:39 Leipzig Hbf to Köln Hbf and 101034 on IC2115 the 07:01 Greifswald to Stuttgart. On the freight side 140013 headed train 42185 the 09:30 München Ost Rbf to Kufstein, 180016 brought home train 45320 the 13:29 Decin Vychod to Dresden Friedrichstadt and blue and white liveried 140423 was in charge of train 65740 the 17:15 Seelze Rbf to Aifeld (Leine).
Lok Report www.lok-report.de is carrying a report that DB is formulating a "Plan B" for the Nurnberg S-Bahn in the event that the Class 442 units are still not accepted into traffic. DB has committed to a revised (improved) timetable frequency on the Nurnberg S-Bahn from the December 2010 timetable change, and has now arranged for 32 locomotives and 82 coaches to be made available to operate the service vice 442s.
France Wednesday 4th August produced 25607 on train 830105 the 05:10 Sarrebourg to Strasbourg, 25591 with train 830104 the 05:20 Strasbourg to Saverne, 67569 leading train 831707 the 06:32 Selestat to Strasbourg, 67513 topping train 830511 the 06:40 Wissembourg to Strasbourg, 25679 powering train 830106 the 07:49 Strasbourg to Saverne and 67510 on train 830510 the 08:48 Strasbourg to Haguenau. The following day 25679 did train 830105 the 05:10 Sarrebourg to Strasbourg, 25595 headed train 830104 the 05:20 Strasbourg to Saverne, 25612 powered train 831301 the 06:26 Strasbourg to Selestat, 25590 hauled train 830117 the 06:50 Saverne to Strasbourg and 67411 did train 830510 the 08:48 Strasbourg to Haguenau. On Friday 6th August train 830105 produced 25590 and 72179 headed train 1040 the 07:45 Mulhouse to Paris Est.
